Frog Pattern Topwater Fly

It is designed primarily for largemouth and smallmouth bass, but panfish and other warmwater predators may also strike it. Its large surface profile targets fish willing to attack substantial prey.

It is tied in size 2/0. The larger hook and body help the fly push water, remain visible, and create the disturbance needed to attract warmwater predators.

Target lily pads, grass edges, banks, overhanging cover, logjams, and other shallow structure. Focus on places where frogs or other surface prey naturally enter the water.

Use short strips or pops followed by pauses, allowing the fly to sit near cover before moving again. Vary the pause length because many explosive strikes occur when the fly stops.

Warm months, low-light periods, and times when bass are holding shallow are strong opportunities. Calm pockets around vegetation and structure can be especially productive when fish are looking up.
