Less pain: Oros strike indicators eliminate common indicator pain points. There are no small parts to fumble and lose. Its streamlined design is centered on the line for balanced casting. There is no exposed fastening hardware or posts sticking out to create drag or tangle line.

Exceptional performance: Oros strike indicators enclose fastening hardware inside of two molded EVA foam hemispheres. When closed, the foam hemispheres compress creating a pressure fit lock that keeps it on the line and in place, without kinking. Over-sized threads make securing it to the line effortless. It works best when the the indicator or your hands are wet.

Easy to use: Unscrew the two foam-grip hemispheres and place the line in the screw slot. Holding the bottom half, with the screw post, in place, screw the top half of the indicator shut. Reposition the indicator between sections of line with just a half twist of the top and bottom.

Features Include:

  • Does not kink the line

  • Float as much or more weight than the current leading brand.

  • Smooth surface developed to repel water and dirt, and create less drag while casting

  • Made with a Biodegradable additive that accelerates biodegradation with prolonged exposure in natural environments, not in normal use

  • Strike indicator top and bottom colors can be mixed or matched by anglers for optimal visibility

FAQs

What is an Oros Indicator used for?

An Oros Indicator is used to suspend and track subsurface flies like nymphs, midges, eggs, worms, and small streamers while they drift through trout water. It helps you control depth, see subtle takes, and keep your fly in the feeding zone longer. Since trout often hold near the bottom where the current is slower and food drifts by, a good indicator is basically your little floating tattletale.

Why use an Oros Indicator instead of a regular strike indicator?

The Oros Indicator is designed to be easy to adjust, easy to see, and gentler on your leader than some traditional pinch-on or toothpick-style indicators. That matters when you are changing depth often, fishing different seams, or trying not to kink your leader into a curly fry. A cleaner indicator setup helps your nymph rig drift better and keeps you focused on fishing instead of fighting your gear.

When should I fish with an Oros Indicator?

Use an Oros Indicator when trout are feeding below the surface, especially in riffles, runs, seams, pocket water, and slower pools where nymphs or larvae are drifting. It is a strong choice when fish are not rising, when the water is cold, or when you need to keep a fly near the bottom with a natural drift. If the dry-fly show is closed, the indicator rig is often still open for business.

How do I set up an Oros Indicator?

Attach the Oros Indicator above your fly at a depth that helps your nymph reach the trout’s feeding lane. A common starting point is setting the indicator about 1.5 to 2 times the water depth, then adjusting from there. If your fly never touches bottom, go deeper or add weight. If you are snagging every drift, shallow it up or lighten the rig. The sweet spot is the occasional tick—not full-time rock farming.

What flies work best under an Oros Indicator?

Nymphs, midge larvae and pupae, caddis larvae, stonefly nymphs, eggs, worms, scuds, and small jig-style flies all work well under an Oros Indicator. The goal is to present subsurface food naturally at the speed of the current. Pair it with the right fly, depth, and weight, and the indicator will help you spot those sneaky little eats trout pretend were “just current.”
