Hanger Hopper

The Hanger Hopper imitates a grasshopper or big terrestrial bug that has slipped off the bank and landed right where trout hoped it would. It is built for that chunky, helpless surface profile trout look for during summer and early fall.

Fish it along grassy banks, undercut edges, meadow streams, foam lines, pocket water, and windy shorelines when terrestrials are active. Hopper fishing is especially good when warm weather has bugs moving and trout are watching the edges like tiny bouncers at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Cast it close to the bank and let it land with a natural plop. Then give it a clean drift with an occasional twitch. Real hoppers kick, drift, and struggle, but they do not usually sprint across the river like they are late for a meeting.

Yes. The Hanger Hopper makes a strong top fly in a dry-dropper rig because hopper-style patterns are usually visible and buoyant. Trail a small nymph, ant, beetle, or drowned terrestrial behind it to cover fish feeding on top and just below the surface.
