Add whatever dropper you want, it'll float just fine. We like this pattern as it shows the fish something different from a profile perspective. Most chubby patterns show the dubbing body which is great, but sometimes fish want a more slender natural profile.

What is the Triple Decker?

The Triple Decker is a buoyant foam dry fly designed to float high and support a dropper. Redd’s notes that you can “add whatever dropper you want” because this pattern floats so well. It comes in size 4 and 8, with color options including Salmonfly, Black Bottom, Tan Bottom, Blue/Yellow Bottom, and Green Bottom.

What does the Triple Decker imitate?

It imitates large stoneflies, salmonflies, hoppers, and other big surface insects. It can also work as a general attractor dry when trout are willing to eat a larger foam fly.

When should I fish the Triple Decker?

Fish it during salmonfly, stonefly, hopper, and terrestrial season, or anytime trout are looking up in faster water. It is especially useful along banks, riffles, pocket water, seams, and broken runs where you need a dry fly that stays visible and floats well.

How should I fish the Triple Decker?

Fish it with a drag-free drift near banks, rocks, seams, and structure. It also makes a strong dry-dropper platform when you want to suspend a nymph underneath a large, visible dry.

Why does the Triple Decker work so well?

The stacked foam design gives it excellent buoyancy, while its slimmer profile shows fish something different from bulkier chubby-style patterns. Redd’s notes that most chubby patterns show more dubbing body, but the Triple Decker offers a more slender, natural profile.
